"The Global South" is not merely an imprecise geographic marker; it is a conceptual cage. Flaw I: The Illusion of Sovereign Lines

The phrase assumes that artificial boundaries drawn during 19th- and 20th-century colonial negotiations represent meaningful structural realities. Nature does not recognize borders, Exclusive Economic Zones (EEZs), or latitude thresholds. Atmosphere, oceanic currents, migratory corridors, and fungal networks operate as continuous, living webs. To manage planetary health through state-based cartography is like trying to heal a human vascular system by treating individual threads of a shirt.

Lumping 150+ nations into a single catch-all phrase erases the radical ecological and cultural differences between Amazonian rainforest biomes, Pacific island archipelagos, Sub-Saharan savannahs, and hyper-urbanized Asian metropolitan hubs. We propose that the United Nations systematically replace "the Global South" across its charters, resolutions, and working groups with four precise, non-anthropocentric alternatives:

1. Bioregional Lifeworlds (or Living Biomes)

Replaces state-based geographic tags with natural ecological boundaries—such as the Amazonian Basin, the Coral Triangle, or the Circumpolar Boreal Belt. It measures a region’s standing not by political clout, but by its structural capacity to sustain life across all species without systemic collapse.

2. Co-Flourishing Systems / Regenerative Zones

Replaces the "developed vs. developing" binary with a dynamic measure of ecological alignment. A region is categorized as Regenerative (maintaining dynamic, multispecies balance) or Extractive (depleting its biomass to fuel short-term human capital).

3. The Inhabited Biosphere (or The Earth Community)

A non-fragmented, holistic framework that views Earth as a single, continuous living organism. It elevates keystone species, microbial networks, and human communities into equal constituents of global security and planetary peace.

4. The Majority Living World

Expanding on demographic critique, this term shifts focus from human population counts to total planetary biomass. It recognizes that regions holding the vast majority of Earth's living organisms are the ecological heartland of the planet, positioning industrial consumer societies as a biological minority.
